Our Expertise in the Circular Economy
The linear economy is based on “take, make, use and dispose of”. The circular economy is characterised by reducing, reusing, recovering and recycling residues. This cycle keeps resources in use for as long as possible, delivering the benefit of resource optimisation.
MBP Solutions’ focus is on recovery and recycling. This need to be more circular and transparent continues to be a high priority for agendas in Europe and throughout the rest of the world.
In traditional lifecycles, the production process is linear. As an example, let’s look at a cereal processing plant. The production facility creates its cereal varieties using raw materials such as grain. During the process, by-products are created. The cereal is shipped to the end-customer who could be, as an example, a supermarket. The by-products are treated as wasted and are disposed. As you can see, this cycle does not utilise raw materials and processes to their maximum potential.
In contrast, a circular economy involves many processes between different businesses. Using the same example, the by-products from the cereal processing plant would be recovered and recycled as animal feed instead of treated as waste. This is how circular economy practices reduce waste and improve business efficiency.
To provide a visual representation, you can see an example in the omega-3 industry. By-product applications enable anaerobic digestion for the production of biogas and the substitution of fish oil in the production of aqua feed for aquaculture.
