Celebrating Omega-3 day with sustainable by-product management
The 3rd of March is Global Omega-3 day. This day is an important annual milestone to call attention to EPA and DHA omega-3s, to share details about their important health benefits, and to highlight why people need to increase their intake.
Omega-3s are a type of fatty acid. There are two main types of marine omega-3s that we get in the diet, EPA and DHA. They are naturally found in marine products such as fatty fish and microalgae. At MBP Solutions, we ensure that excess omega-3 is put to best use in various animal feed applications, thus returned to the food chain and implementing circular business solutions.
MBP Solutions contributes by upgrading the distillation of fish oil by-products from omega-3 concentration from biofuel to animal feed.
Omega-3 fish oil from MBP Solutions can be used for sows and piglets. We have successively run tests on farms where we have seen heavier piglet at weaning and less piglet mortality after farrowing. The positive effects of omega-3 addition for sows can be listed as follows:
- Newborn piglets are more vital and lower mortality 1-3 days after birth
- Positive effect on the immune system
- Improved sow fertility
- Heavier piglets at weaning
Circular Economy in Action
Sustainability sits at the core of our business as we work together for a more sustainable world, by helping industries reduce their impact on the environment. We provide our unique service to industries who want to handle by-products in a sustainable and responsible way. What we do has a direct positive impact on the planet and we are fully committed to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since 2017 MBP Solutions has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
Our business brings to life the concepts of industrial ecology and circular economy by materializing the idea that the waste stream of one industry can be used as a key resource by another.
One example of the circular economy in action is the omega-3 industry where by-product applications enable anaerobic digestion for the production of biogas and the substitution of fish oil in the production of aqua feed for aquaculture. Together with our partners, MBP has developed several new uses of by-products over the years in this industry and continues to innovate across the circular economy in many different industries.
MBP Solutions is a company specializing in sales and market development of by-products from industries with a biological manufacturing process. Using by-products in different application is both sustainable and part of a circular economy.
